We are in the private apartment of Alex, a photographer friend of mine. What you see here is the result of two people playing with cameras, without any particular aim beyond exploration and having fun. I found his personal space to be deeply personal. He worked with black-and-white, grainy film; I picked a digital camera.
To pose for someone is to step into the spotlight — a lesson in vulnerability, requiring one to sit with the discomfort of exposing one’s unguarded self.
Shooting, on the other hand, calls for initiative and a certain degree of dominance: observing what is and what isn't working, and making swift, intuitive decisions that test one’s assertiveness.
